Benthic Sediment Grabs

Mooring Systems, Inc. manufactures Benthic Sediment Grabs for collection of sediment samples.

Our Benthic Sediment Grabs (BSG) are constructed of type-316 stainless steel and model a clamshell design.

The grab is manufactured with a protective instrument frame for mounting of ballast and instruments.

The Benthic Sediment Grab is offered in a dual bucket configuration (BSG-2X) for collection of two samples in a single location.

Features:

• Custom safety locking latches that are gravity-activated only when contact is made with the sediment interface. This design reduces pre-mature triggering of the grab bucket at the air-water interface.

• Safety locking pin with tether for handling on deck.

• 500 μm stainless steel mesh with stopper flaps to reduce shock waves and loss of material. Serviceable latches for stopper flaps.

• Built-in Over-Penetration Indicators for sample depth control.

• Available with or without frame.

Options:

• Configurable ballast in 20 lb. (9 kg.) increments for penetration of harder sediments.

• Lightweight aluminum Stabilization Fin serves as an ideal platform for mounting commercially available cameras, lighting systems, and other instruments.

• Soft sediment shoes to reduce disturbance of benthic environment.

• Deployment Rope Assembly - includes user-defined length of 3/8” diameter Spectra/Dyneema 12-strand rope with spliced nylon thimble and connecting shackle.

Mini Benthic Sediment Grab:

We also after a compact version, the Mini Benthic Sediment Grab (M-BSG). This model is ideal for small boat operations due to its lightweight design and small footprint.

This model is constructed with a lightweight aluminum instrument frame and HDPE stabilization fin that serves as an ideal platform for mounting commercially available action cameras and waterproof lights.
